RHS JV wins 2-1, sweeps the season series against Juanita and takes the KingCo 3A title!!!!

RHS JV wins 2-1, sweeps the season series against Juanita and takes the KingCo 3A title!!!!

Redmond and rivals Juanita were both vying for the league crown and the winner of this match would take home the hardware.  On a beautiful day for soccer, Redmond came out of the gates ready to go and was quick to the ball, controlling the pace.  Rabadan was causing all sorts of distress for Juanita up the wings with his relentless scampering, and one of his classic runs ended with a cross into the box for a goal scoring strike from Tiglon in traffic to put Redmond up 1-0 early.  This was a perfect way to start this exciting match!  A few minutes later, a pressured Juanita defensive drop pass was met by a sprinting and prancing Price who gobbled up a ricochet off the keeper and volleyed a severe angled shot past flying bodies into the back of the net.  Despite the two goal lead for Redmond, one had the feeling that Juanita’s dangerous offense could strike at any moment.  Fahrig did a great job stifling some dangerous runs and was able to match the physicality of the Juanita attack on the wings.  Bilger, Doyle and Tiglon put in some good work to control the midfield, and the defense kept their wits about them.  Juanita came out in the second half visibly fired up and ready to push at the drop of a hat.  Despite the onslaught, keeper Condon had some wonderful level headed play and did not lose his cool under constant pressure from the dangerous Juanita strikers.  Juanita was able to get one back halfway through the second half but Redmond responded and worked to play their game.  The last few minutes of play were frantic with Juanita launching ball after ball into scary places, and Redmond’s defense was bending but refusing to break.  Redmond had some chances as well in the waning moments of the match, most notably a crack off the post by Tiglon after a touchy-feely Price run down the left wing.  The final whistle saw Redmond win 2-1, much to the relief of all home supporters in attendance.

Keeper Condon wins the iron man award for playing every minute of the entire season.  Redmond finishes with the best record, the most goals for, and the fewest goals against.  And as was fitting, Redmond delivered Juanita its only two losses of the season.

What a strong finish!  It has been a great pleasure to watch this team play.

RHS JV cracked Liberty’s Bell with a 4-0 Win!

Final Goal of the game by Mathis, assisted by Folting:

RHS JV put a crack in Liberty’s bell and beat them 4-0, dominating the season series!

Interestingly, this was the exact same result and score as their other meeting in league play.  Early in the match, keeper Condon had to stay on his toes as the Liberty forwards were able to put ball in dangerous places off of counter attacks.  Along with some other Stangs, Bilger did some nice defensive work covering a barrage of ridiculously long Liberty throw-ins.  After a few missed chances, Redmond was able to capitalize with a Folting shot bouncing off the post back to Price for the finishing strike.  A couple of minutes later, a mucho dangerous Doyle free kick into the box found Fahrig’s head for a really nice finish.  In the second half, another wonderful free kick by Doyle was pounced on by Loo for the laid out goal.  Redmond put a bow on the win with constant pressure in the final five minutes of play, and Folting was able to find a wide open Mathis for a nice looping finish just past the Liberty keeper.  Kudos to the RHS defense for another impressive result and clean sheet!

Keep it going strong Redmond and Go Stangs!

Goals:  21’ (Price), 22’ (Fahrig, assist Doyle), 46’ (Loo), 59’ (Mathis, assist Folting)

Redmond JV’s Unbeaten Streak Comes to an End

Redmond’s unbeaten streak comes to an end, with the Stangs falling to Bellevue 0-1.

This match saw numerous Redmond goal scoring opportunities, but no conversions and the Stangs were left licking their wounds.  As has become common practice in the second half of the season, Redmond’s opponents came ready to play with high intensity.  In the first half, RHS had a tough time maintaining possession and seemed a step slower to the ball than their opponents.  Some of the bright spots for the Stangs included various dangerous runs on the wing by Fahrig, Yeo, and Price, and a lovely cross from Lee which just missed a goal off a header from Folting.  Keeper Condon made his presence known with a great point blank save early in the second half, and Legresley tidied up and extinguished numerous Bellevue chances through fancy footwork and the power of anticipation.  After a Bellevue goal late in the second half, Redmond turned up the intensity while looking for the equalizer but it was too little too late.  Despite sustaining the loss, the Stangs control their destiny and if they are able to win the final two matches they will take the league.

Redmond Pounced on Interlake with a 3-1 Victory!

Yeo finishes the decisive goal:

The match started with offensive pressure from both teams, and it was clear early that Redmond would be in for a physical battle.  Redmond was able to capitalize first with a close range shot on goal from Price caroming off a defender to Folting for the scoring strike.  Interlake had a few dangerous runs early, and keeper Condon stayed alert, skillfully batting away numerous attempts.  The second Redmond goal came well into the first half, with a long Doyle free kick placed with wonderful precision deep into the box for a clinical Rabadan tap into the back of the net.  Near the end of the first half, some unnecessary Interlake dangerous play found Polly on the ground after being tripped outside the touch line.  The second half saw tensions rising as well as increased physical pressure from Interlake.  Interlake had several blistering runs with full heads of steam, one of which resulted in a goal in the 50th minute.  After the lone Interlake goal, the Redmond midfield and defense tightened it up with Doyle, Legresley, and Condon all making some great decisions under pressure.  The last twenty minutes of the match saw an onslaught of dangerous Redmond corners, one of which resulted in a nice header goal by Yeo to put a bow on the final result.

Goals:  6’ (Folting), 30’ (Rabadan, assist Doyle), 76’ (Yeo, assist Price)

JV Finds the Back of the Net 10 Times in Win Against Sammamish

Redmond JV busted out of its scoring mini-slump and asserted its dominance against Sammamish 10-1!

The weather was unsettled and the wind was cold, but the popcorn was exceptionally tasty and the goals were flowing!  Redmond had a monkey on its back AND a chi(m)p on its shoulder from its recent scoring drought and so it was high time to take care of business!  Rabadan started the onslaught early with a trademark fancy footwork run on the right flank and cracked the ball into the left side of the goal to quiet the raucous Sammamish fans.  Bilger had even happier feet than usual and pushed forward to deftly grab a couple of goals himself, off of clinical crosses from Rabadan and Price.  Polly got in on the action by launching a ball skyward from way downtown, and immediately murmurs of “that’s going to be tricky…” from the boisterous Redmond supporters were realized via a tough bounce for the Sammamish keeper to manage and a Redmond goal.  The second half of the contest saw a continuation of the RHS offensive explosion with a barrage of relentless Redmond scampering and striking.  A few Sammamish breakaways were extinguished by the Redmond defense and keeper Condon, and as time went on the final result became more and more inevitable.  Condon and Co. narrowly missed a clean sheet when a ball pin-balling around in the box during garbage time found its way into the back of the net with less than ten minutes to play.

Goals: 4’ (Rabadan), 7’ (Bilger, assist Rabadan), 9’ (Bilger, assist Price), 12’ (Sammamish own goal), 17’ (Polly), 47’ (Price), 50’ (Loo, assist Price), 56’ (Folting), 65’ (Loo), 67’ (Folting)

JV Forced to Settle for a Draw with LW

Redmond JV finished with a scoreless draw against Lake Washington on Friday 4/13, earning a hard-fought point.  At this point in the season Redmond is seeing all of these teams for a second time, and it is clear that the Stangs’ opponents are arriving at the pitch supremely motivated and primed to play hard.  Redmond started the match with a strong offensive push and earned multiple corners in the early minutes of play.  Of note in the first half were some peppy Folting runs and crosses from the left wing which left the Kangs scrambling for cover, some seriously tenacious d by co-captain Merrick which stifled numerous Lake Washington attacks, and a highly dangerous Loo header just missing right of the goal.  In the second half Redmond had the ball inside the 6 many times and was thwarted again and again by the crafty Lake Washington keeper.  That’s soccer, folks!  Lake Washington had a few chances of its own, but Condon and the back line were able to prevent any lasting damage.  It was a pleasure to watch the composure of the Redmond defense in this game and the resilience they demonstrated was a testament to the “bend but don’t break” stuff we have been treated to thus far in the season.

Redmond JV sweeps the season series against Mercer Island with a 2-0 win!

MI came ready to play and early in the match they appeared to be the crisper of the two squads, with multiple loose Redmond passes being intercepted for turnovers.  Redmond’s touch seemed a little off, and the boys had a difficult time connecting the ball with dangerous runs.  Despite the somewhat stagnant offensive play, Redmond was able to win a number of first half corner kicks and started to mount the pressure.  The pieces came together in the eleventh minute when Bilger skillfully delivered an inch perfect pass to Price who slalomed through a few defenders and finessed a shot with his left just past Mercer Island’s keeper.  Mercer Island had few offensive chances in the first half, with the Redmond back line holding strong and refusing to yield.  Early in the second half, a signature Rabadan slice and dice run up the right wing ended with a cross which bounced off of Michalski and onto Price’s waiting foot into the back of the net for Redmond’s second goal.  Keeper Condon had some wonderful play in this match, including a masterful save sequence with about ten minutes left in the contest while flying through the air and then flopping around on the ground like a fish.  The efforts led to a clean sheet and a Redmond win!

Goals: 11’ (Price), 41’ (Price, assist Michalski)
