The Stangs Win Third Place in the State Championship!!!

For the first time in Redmond High School history, the soccer team finished 3rd place at the State Tournament!

After suffering a tough loss to Roosevelt in their Friday semi-final match, the Stangs battled back on Saturday to defeat Lakeside 4-3 for the 3rd place trophy.

This weekend has been a culmination of months of tremendous effort, grit, and self-belief. From off-season conditioning sessions in cold December days, to practice sessions in the heat of late Spring, to three intense battles against the Mercer Island Islanders, to shocking results against some of the best teams in the entire State, this team has risen to every challenge set before them. Everyone around the league and the state undervalued this team, but dang did we prove them wrong!

Congratulations to all the boys on an excellent, memorable, and historic season! What a way to finish!

Oh and just for those that are interested in numbers… our Stangs finished 3rd out of 65 3A teams in Washington! That is truly incredible!

Announcing your 2018 KingCo Champions, the Redmond Mustangs!

Stangs- Varsity pic- kingco championship

In what can only be described as a battle, Redmond prevailed over Mercer Island in the KingCo Championship game last night! The game finished regular and extra time goalless, with neither team conceding. Our beloved Stangs rose to the occasion during the PK Shootout. Angel Hernandez, Kojo Dadzie, Ethan Cain, and Reece Wyrick all stepped up and finished their shots with composure. Meanwhile, the Man of the Match Ricardo Escalante managed to stop two of the Islanders’ shots, leading to a 4-2 Victory!

With last night’s win, the Redmond Mustangs have earned the program their 1st KingCo Championship in 11 years! What a testament to the hard work, resilience, and heart these young men showed all season long.

Thanks to all the family, friends, and other supporters who came out last night to root the team on! What an amazing, spirited night! The team could not have won without your help!

The Stangs will host their 1st round game in the 3A State Tournament early next week. More details to come.

C-Team 2018

C-Team Finishes their Season with an Impressive 1-1 Performance Against Eastlake!

C-Team ties undefeated Eastlake 1-1

The C-Stangs saved their best game for last.  Eastlake gets up early after a mix-up inside the 18 leaves an unmarked Eastlake forward open for an easy goal.  However, as the game went on so did the teams confidence which wasn’t easy as they were playing a tough Eastlake team who was previously unbeaten (or tied).  Then, mid-way through the second half, # 9 Garrett Price makes a long run to the end line and cuts the ball into the 6 yard box to find #3 Ian Loo who slams the ball into the back of the net.  Luke Johnson makes a few (too many) spectacular saves to earn a clean sheet in the second half and the game ends in a 1-1 tie.  Although unofficial, Coach Antonio was reportedly seen skipping in the parking lot, unable to control how proud he was of his team’s effort.

JV 2018

RHS JV wins 2-1, sweeps the season series against Juanita and takes the KingCo 3A title!!!!

RHS JV wins 2-1, sweeps the season series against Juanita and takes the KingCo 3A title!!!!

Redmond and rivals Juanita were both vying for the league crown and the winner of this match would take home the hardware.  On a beautiful day for soccer, Redmond came out of the gates ready to go and was quick to the ball, controlling the pace.  Rabadan was causing all sorts of distress for Juanita up the wings with his relentless scampering, and one of his classic runs ended with a cross into the box for a goal scoring strike from Tiglon in traffic to put Redmond up 1-0 early.  This was a perfect way to start this exciting match!  A few minutes later, a pressured Juanita defensive drop pass was met by a sprinting and prancing Price who gobbled up a ricochet off the keeper and volleyed a severe angled shot past flying bodies into the back of the net.  Despite the two goal lead for Redmond, one had the feeling that Juanita’s dangerous offense could strike at any moment.  Fahrig did a great job stifling some dangerous runs and was able to match the physicality of the Juanita attack on the wings.  Bilger, Doyle and Tiglon put in some good work to control the midfield, and the defense kept their wits about them.  Juanita came out in the second half visibly fired up and ready to push at the drop of a hat.  Despite the onslaught, keeper Condon had some wonderful level headed play and did not lose his cool under constant pressure from the dangerous Juanita strikers.  Juanita was able to get one back halfway through the second half but Redmond responded and worked to play their game.  The last few minutes of play were frantic with Juanita launching ball after ball into scary places, and Redmond’s defense was bending but refusing to break.  Redmond had some chances as well in the waning moments of the match, most notably a crack off the post by Tiglon after a touchy-feely Price run down the left wing.  The final whistle saw Redmond win 2-1, much to the relief of all home supporters in attendance.

Keeper Condon wins the iron man award for playing every minute of the entire season.  Redmond finishes with the best record, the most goals for, and the fewest goals against.  And as was fitting, Redmond delivered Juanita its only two losses of the season.

What a strong finish!  It has been a great pleasure to watch this team play.

Goals:  3’ (Tiglon, assist Rabadan), 11’ (Price)
